Newcastle United: Christian Falk drops Alassane Plea transfer news -Newcastle United Transfer Rumours

Christian Falk has now dropped some Newcastle United transfer news involving Alassane Plea.

The Lowdown: Another forward in?

Following the arrival of Chris Wood from Burnley earlier on in the January transfer window, it seems as if the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium are targeting at least another forward.

Darwin Nunez, Ousmane Dembele and Jesse Lingard have all been linked recently with a move to St. James’ Park, and now Plea seems to be the latest name on the shortlist.

The Latest: Falk on Plea

Speaking on Sport BILD’s show Englische Woche, Bundesliga journalist and transfer insider Falk has now revealed (via Sport Witness) the latest on the North East club’s potential move for Plea this month:

“That’s true; a whistle-blower called me and told me they are getting serious now.

“There have been rumours all along that Newcastle are on him, now they are ready to put €10m on the table.

“The player has a contract until 2023, and his market value is €15m. Borussia Monchengladbach bought him for €23m from Nice in 2018.

“That said, I think Newcastle will definitely pay the amount that’s needed. An extra €10m and they will be happy.

“Newcastle are under pressure, and after the 1-1 draw with Watford in the basement duel, they are hanging on in penultimate place in the table. They need to make sure they stay in the league.”

The Verdict: Avoid?

If Plea were to end up costing €20m (£16.7m), it could present a decent opportunity for the Tyneside outfit to swoop given their newfound riches.

Should Newcastle sign Plea?

However, he has only managed a mere three goals and one assist in 21 games in total over all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt), and so is not prolific enough to fire the Magpies out of the drop zone.

Nonetheless, the likes of Dembele and Lingard could provide cheaper options to Plea given their respective contract situations at FC Barcelona and Manchester United, and so this is a deal that the Magpies should avoid doing for now.
