Newcastle United reportedly now 'want' to sign Thomas Muller before the January transfer window shuts.

The Lowdown: Bruno done?

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie reported that the St James’ Park club have ‘agreed a fee’ with Lyon in the region of £30m to sign Bruno Guimaraes, adding that he ‘will undergo a medical’ in Brazil.

However, 90min journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that there is ‘no agreement’ in place for the player just yet, and shortly after Lyon released a statement seemingly supporting that stance.

Nonetheless, with just a few days of the transfer window remaining, it is a deal which could get done eventually, meaning that the Magpies could move on to other targets.

The Latest: Muller wanted

As per Bundesliga journalist and transfer expert Christian Falk, Newcastle now 'want' to sign Muller, alongside Everton.

As noted by Falk, the Germany forward has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2023, so Bayern Munich may be tempted to cash in on the 32-year-old now in order to get the maximum value out of him.

The Verdict: Sign

While Muller may now be a veteran of the game, he still has a lot to offer, notably racking up a whopping 20 assists in all competitions so far this season, as well as nine goals (Transfermarkt).

Dubbed a 'top class' player by former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson, the Germany international has won just about all there is to win. Also, his elite mentality would be so useful for Newcastle not just on the pitch, but off it as well.

He is known to be instructive with his teammates when playing, as Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann claims that the 32-year-old is 'like a coach' himself, which could give the Magpies the extra boost they need in order to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
