Newcastle United are looking to make new additions to bolster their attacking threat ahead of their return to the Champions League this season.
The Magpies just enjoyed one of their most successful campaigns in decades and will be hopeful of building on their achievements as they prepare to tackle the European stage.
Eddie Howe and his squad are fully immersed in their preparations, with pre-season well underway ahead of their upcoming tour of Singapore.
However, with only one new signing added to the first-team squad so far in the summer transfer window, there is still plenty of work to do in the recruitment department.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has revealed that securing a striker has become a priority following the departure of Callum Wilson.
This development has led to several potential targets being named in the media, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Hugo Ekitike and Ollie Watkins.
Over the weekend, Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope added another Premier League striker into the mix, with Brentford star Yoane Wissa now touted as a target for the club.
In a post on social media platform X, Hope wrote:
“Newcastle striker search now in full swing & a move for Yoane Wissa is being explored, among others.
“Hugo Ekitike also on the list.
“Different profiles & prices among targets & options being weighed up ahead of approaches. #NUFC”
How much will Yoane Wissa cost?

It is no secret that Eddie Howe admires the attacking threat at the Gtech Community Stadium, as Newcastle have also been strongly linked with a move for Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
At the beginning of the transfer window, Newcastle appeared to be in pole position to sign the Brentford winger, but further reports revealed he preferred a move to Manchester United.
This led to the signing of long-term target Anthony Elanga, which has secured the future of the right-wing role for years to come.
There is no doubt that Wissa would be a popular signing at Newcastle, as he has demonstrated consistency and confidence in front of goal for the Bees.
Over 149 appearances, the 28-year-old – hailed as “unbelievable” by Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank – has scored 49 goals and registered 13 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 145 minutes since joining Brentford in 2021.
It is reported that Newcastle would need to pay around £50m to get a deal over the line, though the London club remain reluctant to part ways with their striker, so that figure may still fall short.
With all considered, it will be interesting to see if Brentford would entertain offers for one of their most important players and whether Newcastle would be happy to meet their demands in their pursuit of Wissa.
