As you can imagine, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t in the best of moods right now, considering the run of results they’ve been on. While Rafa Benitez retains the full support of the Geordies in our bar, they certainly could do with some cheering up.
Well, comments in the Daily Mail aren’t really likely to do that. According to their report, the Magpies have offered relegation rivals West Ham United the services of Aleksandar Mitrovic in the January transfer, a move many of those in our bar find baffling if true.
The Serbian is a hugely popular figure on Tyneside, though has never really retained the support of Benitez, who has deployed both Joselu and Dwight Gayle ahead of the 23-year-old. Though he might not have a natural role in the Toon Army’s side right now, the idea of giving him to a side just two points behind Newcastle would surely be one of the stupidest moves the club could possibly make.
Newcastle might shift Mitrovic on in the New Year, though giving him to a team who could overtake them would be truly stupid. The former Anderlecht man clearly knows how to score goals in the Premier League and seeing them go in at West Ham would be gutting.
