Despite England’s success at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the international break so early into the Premier League campaign leaves fans with little to talk about. Still, for Newcastle United fans, that might be a good thing after a season already compromised by an off the field soap opera.
Still, as much as Rafa Benitez’s side lack the kind of quality so desperately required at St. James’ Park, few would doubt that this Newcastle squad is one full of characters. Indeed, that’s a pleasant sight for everyone connected to the Toon Army, after years of seeing overpaid mercenaries clog up the playing ranks.
One of those characters we’re talking about is undoubtedly DeAndre Yedlin. The defender, who scored against Manchester City prior to the break, recently hit headlines after he joked about Neymar’s diving in the World Cup when Brazil met the USA in a friendly on Saturday.
Yedlin was videoed reportedly asking the referee if he’d watched the World Cup after the Brazilian superstar went down as the PSG man picked up quite the reputation for going down easily out in Russia.
Well, Neymar responded. Speaking about the matter (with quotes sourced from the Chronicle) the former Barcelona forward savagely hinted he didn’t even know about Yedlin, such is the two’s standing in the game.
“Unfortunately I don’t have much to say,” Neymar said.
“He’s the type of player…I don’t know so I have no reason to be worried about it.”
As you can imagine, the arrogant comments from the 26-year-old prompted quite the response from the Toon Army online. Here’s a closer look.
