Nottingham Forest: James Garner backed for City Ground return

Manchester United midfielder James Garner looks ‘most likely’ to return to Nottingham Forest on loan next season, according to a new transfer report.

The Lowdown: Garner shines at Forest

The 21-year-old has spent the last two seasons at the City Ground on a temporary basis, playing a key role in Steve Cooper’s side sealing promotion to the Premier League in May.

Garner scored four goals and registered eight assists in the Championship last term, scooping four Man of the Match awards from WhoScored for good measure.

It now looks like the youngster could be heading to Forest yet again, in what is an exciting update.

The Latest: Return on the cards for Garner

According to The Telegraph‘s James Ducker, another loan move to the City Ground this summer seems the ‘most likely scenario’ for Garner.

New United manager Erik ten Hag hasn’t been afforded the opportunity to assess him in pre-season because of injury and could let him leave for the entirety of the 2022/23 campaign, in what would appear to be a green light for the 21-year-old to exit Old Trafford on loan once more.

The Verdict: Great news for Forest

This news will surely delight most Forest fans, with Garner a popular figure over the past two seasons among supporters and staff, being hailed as a ‘real winner’ by Cooper.

The 21-year-old could now believe that he is ready to star in the Premier League, having mastered the Championship, and he could provide Forest with much-needed class in midfield.

Should Morgan Gibbs-White also come in from Wolves, as has been rumoured, Cooper could have a couple of superb young English talents at his disposal, using them to potentially devastating effect at the City Ground.

Garner would also arrive with the comfort of knowing that he is already familiar with playing for the club under the 42-year-old, perhaps making the mooted loan move even more appealing to him.
