Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of Atalanta midfielder Remo Freuler, with Fabrizio Romano claiming the player is ‘in England’ prior to his move.
The Lowdown: Freuler closing in on move
The 30-year-old has emerged as one of the Reds’ main transfer targets in the last few weeks, with Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg claiming a ‘verbal agreement’ was in place last week.
Freuler has been a key player for Atalanta over the years, making an impressive tally of 259 appearances, scoring 20 goals and registering 23 assists along the way.
He also has 46 caps for Switzerland, and it now appears as though his move to Forest is closer than ever.
The Latest: Romano provides new update
Taking to Twitter on Friday morning, Romano claimed that Freuler is now in the UK to complete his switch to the City Ground and an announcement is expected today:
“Official statement expected today for Freuler as new Nottingham Forest player – he’s already in England. Here we go confirmed.”
The Verdict: Done by Sunday?
This feels like a matter of time now, as Forest’s extraordinary summer in the transfer market continues, having already spent huge sums on several new players.
Would Pinamonti be a good signing for Forest?
Freuler is someone whose experience at the base of the midfield could prove priceless, allowing others in front of him to create and score. He enjoyed an 88.2% pass completion rate during World Cup qualifying for Switzerland, highlighting his ability and composure on the big stage.
