Nottingham Forest: Reds could sign new goalkeeper

Old Trafford, Manchester, Britain - January 22, 2022. Manchester United's Dean Henderson during the warm up.

Nottingham Forest could reportedly look to sign a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window, following an injury setback for Dean Henderson.

The Lowdown: Henderson suffers injury blow

The Reds are still battling for their Premier League survival and we could feasibly see another busy transfer window after the mania in the summer, with Danilo already joining on Monday.

Steve Cooper has now been dealt a big blow with the news that on-loan Manchester United ‘keeper Henderson is now set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a thigh issue.

That could heighten the need for Forest to make reinforcements between the sticks and a new update suggests as much.

The Latest: New goalkeeper incoming?

Taking to Twitter, reliable journalist John Percy claimed that the Reds could now look to sign a ‘keeper in January, in order to fill the Henderson-shaped void:

“Wayne Hennessey expected to deputise but Forest may consider signing another goalkeeper.”

The Verdict: Makes complete sense

Such is the importance of Forest staying up this season, signing a new ‘keeper makes perfect sense, even if Henderson is back in action in February.

Wayne Hennessey is arguably past his best, following a shaky 2022 World Cup with Wales that saw him sent off against Iran, and he is a weak first-choice option to have.

Cooper could simply take the risk, with Henderson returning relatively swiftly, but if the money is there to be spent on a new stopper, Forest should get a move done.
