Manchester City wrapped up the Premier League title last weekend as they stormed to a win over Spurs before seeing rivals Manchester United lose 1-0 at home to lowly West Bromwich Albion.
Pep Guardiola’s men have been by far and away the best team in England this season, and despite their relatively early exit in the Champions League to Liverpool, many believe it won’t be long until the club conquer Europe for the first time.
Indeed, our landlord here at the Tavern thinks that this summer could give the club the ideal opportunity to add that one special player who might take them to the next level in European competition, and he thinks that bringing a top quality player in and moving someone else on who isn’t up to the job any more could be key.
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at one potential incoming and outgoing at the Etihad this summer…
Out – Yaya Toure
The experienced midfielder will go down as a legend with the club, and rightly so, but he has simply not been involved as much as he would like under Guardiola.
The Ivorian midfielder is a beast of a player on his day, and despite being well into his 30s now, he definitely still has something to offer at top level football.
Strong, good on the ball, and with a keen eye for goal, Toure would be an excellent addition for many in the Premier League, and a move could be the best result for all parties involved.
In – Robert Lewandowski
The Polish striker is fully expected to depart Bayern Munich this summer, sparking something of a transfer scramble across Europe and beyond.
The big striker is a world class talent, and with City struggling at times when both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have been missing through injury, adding an option like Lewandowski could well be one of the shrewdest moves available to the club.
Fantastic in the air, a lethal finisher, and someone with top level experience, Lewandowski would add another option and genuine improvement to a City squad already brimming with talent.
