Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for some new faces in the door come summertime and the addition of a world class game changer is a high priority if they have ambitions of finally winning the Premier League after a five-year wait.
If it wasn’t for local rivals Man City’s unbelievable campaign, the Red Devils would have surely been in the mix for the top prize in English football this season. Despite this, United under Jose Mourinho have had their best season in the Premier League since they last won it in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge, and despite many claims, there are improvements in United since he took over.
If the Red Devils are to inch closer to Man City next season, then a few additions to the squad is simply a must for Mourinho. With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the winter, many in the bar feel that the main focus should now be on the back line and trying to balance up the team.
With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at which player would be the final piece in the Mourinho jigsaw at Old Trafford this coming summer…
OUR VERDICT – Toby Alderwerield

Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld is into the last year of his contract and there are links to Old Trafford arising within the pub. The Belgian would certainly bring a level of experience to the team and would vastly improve the back line, which is something United are in desperate need of.
If Mourinho wants to go fully for the title next year then the foundation of the defence is where he must start, and there’s no better than Alderweireld at present within the Premier League.
Mourinho has a pool of average defenders, and the Belgian is the level up from what is currently in the squad.
