The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are riding a huge wave of optimism right now.
Indeed, with Rafa Benitez’s side having won three games on the bounce, our resident Geordies are once again enjoying life back in the top tier, despite a difficult start.
So, recent reports suggesting Mike Ashley had lowered his asking price for the club to a cool £380m were always likely to spark a reaction online. The Sports Direct mogul has never proven to be a popular figure on Tyneside since taking ownership and the majority of fans still want him out.
With problems reported between he and Rafa Benitez, an almost Messiah-like figure at St. James’ Park, even the idea of seeing Ashley depart has gone down a storm amongst our north East locals.
Still, not all too many of them are overly convinced that £380m would attract potential buyers, so here’s a closer look at how fans reacted on Twitter to the Ashley rumours.
I guess any talk of Ashley selling is positive, if it happens, hopefully it's before Jan as he won't spend this winter #nufc

Mike Ashley won't sell #NUFC because it provides a nice little bit of extra revenue for him…..
