The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Jose Mourinho to add a few bodies to their side’s squad. The Red Devils look a little light on the ground in a few areas, and so extra depth will be needed ahead of next season.
Naturally, though, top players arren’t going to want to comee in just to warm the bench and play when needed. Thus, Mourinho may have to turn to a few younger players this summer – they may be more willing to bide their time on the bench.
One player we think could be perfect is Liverpool’s Marko Grujic. Grujic doesn’t look likely to get a look-in next season at Anfield, given that the Reds have invested heavily in their midfield this summer, and at 22-years-old, he’s in a position in which he needs to be a part of the first team squad. Liverpool, then, could be open to selling him – and stranger things have happened in football in recent years.
For starters, Grujic plays in a position that needs strengthening. Unlike Liverpool, Man Utd haven’t added much to that position over the last year, and with Paul Pogba struggling somewhat, additional depth would be good.
He’d be a natural fit under Mourinho, too. At 6ft2, he’s a very physical presence in the air, and that continues through to his playstyle. He’s very confident and comfortable on the ball, and he’s not a player that is easy to knock out of the game as he is physically strong too.
Not to mention, his technical ability is there too. He’s solid at both defending and moving the ball forward offensively, and so he’d be a bit of a jack of all trades for the Red Devils.
He’s not the finished article, and further improvement is needed. However, as a rotational option, he’d be right at home at Old Trafford.
