The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern had expected their side’s midfield to dominate the Premier League this season.

In both Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, they have two of Europe’s best midfielders, but it hasn’t quite gone to plan this term.

Paul Pogba has struggled, and whilst Matic has looked good, he can’t dominate the midfield on his own.

In the case of the latter, then, the prospect of bringing in a new midfielder to partner him will certainly be on Jose Mourinho’s mind this summer.

The Serbian has proven that he can do it at the highest level in the Premier League, and so bringing in another gifted midfielder to play alongside him could take Man Utd to the next level.

With that said, here are 2 players that would be simply brilliant next to Matic at Man Utd…

Wilfred Ndidi

Nemanja Matic had a lot of success playing alongside another defensive player at Chelsea in the form of N’Golo Kante – so where better to start than with the Frenchman’s heir-apparent.

Ndidi has been brilliant at Leicester City this season, emerging as one of Europe’s brightest young midfield talents.

At just 21-years-old, he’d be a long-term fix for the Red Devils, and Jose Mourinho would no doubt love the defensive nature of his game.

A fantastic tackler, he would add some real venom to this team.

Arturo Vidal

Man Utd could also turn to someone with a bit more experience.

Arturo Vidal is arguably one of the best midfielders in Europe. Possessing incredible ability on the ball, whilst also utilising his aggressive style of play to impress defensively, the Chilean is, arguably, the complete midfielder.

He’s already 30, and so wouldn’t be a short-term fix – but in terms of quality, Man Utd couldn’t do better.

Not to mention, Vidal also has experience of playing in the same team as Pogba – and so he’d be excellent next to the Frenchman too.
