The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been getting a sense of deja vu as they’ve been linked with Clement Grenier, according to The Chronicle writer, Andrew Musgrove on Twitter. Grenier was linked with the club back when Alan Pardew was in charge and the news is sparking some memories from the fans, who wouldn’t mind seeing the Frenchman sign.
As #NUFC transfer bingo goes – Clément Grenier is up there. French media now linking him with a move to #NUFC for as little as €3m.

At the age of 27, Grenier still has a lot to offer despite his injury problems. Back in January the midfielder left Lyon for Guingamp and the move worked wonders for him. In the first half of the season, Grenier played four minutes of Ligue 1 action for Lyon but after his move he made 15 appearances, scoring five goals and registering four assists in that time. This summer could see him on the move again though as Newcastle have come back calling.
If Grenier does make the move from France to Newcastle, the fans will have a serious player on their hands. The Frenchman can be deployed as an attacking midfielder or as a central midfielder a bit deeper in a pivot. This would provide Rafa Benitez with different options as Grenier could deputise for Ayoze Perez, Jonjo Shelvey or Mo Diame wherever needed. The fans are onboard and the player would come cheap, it’s just a matter of whether there’s weight behind the rumours.

Clement Grenier before injuries was the biggest talent in French football. A player I would 100% take a gamble on at 3mill.

At one point one of the most promising players in France until unfortunate injuries happened, after what I’ve seen Rafa do to Diame €3M is more than worth the gamble imo!

The Geordies in the Tavern are optimistic about Grenier and it would be interesting to see whether or not he’d fare in the Premier League.
