According to Kevin Phillips, Anwar El Ghazi will leave Aston Villa between now and the end of the transfer window.
Despite playing 34 times in the Premier League last season, it seems that El Ghazi is not a part of Dean Smith’s plans moving forward – he has not played a single minute so far this campaign in the top flight.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips believes the end is nigh for the Netherlands international. He said:
“I think he’s done well, he’s been there a while now.
“It’s always tough, Villa made a lot of signings didn’t they at the beginning of last season.
“Dean Smith, having made a few more this season, is probably looking to offload one or two or three players.
“I know you need a big squad but if you look at the amount of players that he’s got, it’s only sensible that you need to cut it a little bit.
“Bring Barkley in now and of course bringing Watkins in as well, it wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of the players that might make way.”
El Ghazi was a rather important part of the side last term, scoring six goals and providing seven assists throughout the whole season. However, there has been more investment from the Villa hierarchy, with the likes of Ross Barkley and Ollie Watkins coming in, and it seems that there is no space for the former Lille man as a result.

There does appear to be very little time left for the 25-year-old to move away from the Midlands, but even if it doesn’t go through today, it could be something that is revisited in January. Either way, something will have to change for the £7.2m-valued ace (as per Transfermarkt) to break his way back into the side’s starting XI.
