Our Spurs fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty low at the moment after they lost at Wembley once again – this time against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The Lilywhites really do seem to have some bad luck at the national stadium at the moment and that is something they’ll need to sort before next season when they’re there more regularly thanks to the White Hart Lane redevelopment.
The game, in truth, was one Spurs really could have won with them in control for large portions of the match but they couldn’t make it tell before Chelsea delivered two sucker punches to see the game finish 4-2.
Naturally, then, mocking occurred from rival fans on Twitter, with many citing the fact that Mauricio Pochettino had recently claimed in Cadena Ser that: “Tottenham is a historic club at the same level as Manchester United and Liverpool,” and that the club is “the most popular in London, more than Arsenal and Chelsea.”
People were quick to jump on this, then, and so here is the best of the reaction:
Pochettino: Spurs have the same history as United and L’pool. They’re more popular than Arsenal and Chelsea. CHE 4-2 SPURS. Bottlers#CHETOT

The most popular team in London and joint in terms of history as Man Utd and Liverpool (according to Pochettino) lost today.

Pochettino wasn’t wrong when he said Spurs are a historic club.
First side in history to lose 7 consecutive FA cup semi-finals.

At least Pochettino made history today

1) For Mauricio Pochettino to suggest #thfc have a history to match that of #mufc and #lfc is plainly delusional. What an utter twerp.

Pochettino also said that Spurs have the same history as Man U & Liverpool
Man U – 20 Titles
Liverpool – 18 Titles
Spurs – 2 Titles— Mr DT © (@MrDtAFC) 21 April 2017
Here’s today’s laugh track – Pochettino says Spurds are more popular in London than #Arsenal or CFC & have as much history as MUFC. HAHAHAHA
