Darren Bent is a name that hasn’t been in heard for much of this season.
The veteran striker has been without a club this season, however, the 35-year-old striker is keen to get back into action.
The former Premier League striker was last seen at Burton Albion last season as the then Derby Country striker only fired two goals for the Brewers as they slumped down from the Championship to League One.
Looking to get back into football, Bent has recently admitted on Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports (via the Sun) that he is eager to follow in the footsteps of former Spurs teammate Jermaine Defoe in moving to Scotland for either Rangers or Celtic.
So what would the potential consequences be if Bent was to join Steven Gerrard’s side next season?
Bent and Defoe can roll back the years
With Defoe being an inspiration for Bent open to move up to Scotland, it only makes sense that the duo could replicate their form for Spurs and England.
The English pair had successful years for both club and country, and Bent could take well to the Scottish game despite a full season out from football. In his last full season with a club the 35-year-old striker hit 10 goals in 37 appearances for Derby, and if the Ipswich Town product could reach a similar target Rangers will be in a great position to compete for the Premiership title.
Gerrard has a lethal option off the bench
As well as starting alongside Defoe in the starting XI, Bent off the bench will be a dangerous option for the Glaswegian club.
Despite being in his mid-30s, Bent is still a player who can turn on the afterburners and cause problems for Scottish defences in the 30 minutes of a match.
With Bent, Defoe, and current SPL top scorer Alfredo Morelos in one squad, Gerrard’s Rangers will be a genuine threat for Celtic for the league title if this signing is to come off.
