Man City: Pep Guardiola has ‘broad agreement’ over new deal

Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund, Germany - October 25, 2022. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola applauds fans.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has a ‘broad agreement’ in place over a new contract, with journalist Graeme Bailey making a ‘very confident’ claim.

The Lowdown: Guardiola era…

The Guardiola era has been an unforgettable one for Sky Blues supporters as the former Barcelona head coach writes himself into Eastlands folklore.

There are few other City managers in history who can match the Spaniard’s achievements, with past favourites like Joe Mercer, Malcolm Allison, Wilf Wild and Roberto Mancini now overtaken by Guardiola.

City’s head coach has overseen a gloriously successful era since moving from Bayern Munich in 2016, going on to clinch 11 major trophies during his time in the Premier League.

Four league titles, four Carabao Cups, two Community Shields and an FA Cup mark Guardiola’s sensational record at City, and it is highly possible that this record could look even better after 2022/23.

The Latest: Journalist makes ‘very confident’ Guardiola contract claim…

However, in a worry for City supporters, the 51-year-old’s deal is currently set to expire in 2023, with there still being no sign of a confirmed new deal.

This has lead Sky Blue chiefs to draw up a candidacy list for potential replacements as the likes of Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Julian Nagelsmann (Bayern Munich) and Marcelo Gallardo (River Plate) attract interest.

However, 90min reporter Bailey says that City really don’t think it will come down to finding a replacement and are ‘very confident’ that the incumbent boss will stay in Manchester.

Furthermore, sources claim that both Guardiola’s representatives and the club have a ‘broad agreement’ in place over fresh terms which would tie him down until 2025.

The Verdict: Great news…

News of a ‘broad agreement’ and City’s confident stance should certainly come as music to the ears of the club’s supporters.

While the list of possible names to succeed Guardiola is an impressive one, you could argue that all of them are a serious downgrade on the club’s current manager, who has broken countless records since his appointment.

In truth, once the former La Liga icon ends his time at Manchester City, they may never see his like again.
