Tottenham now targeting Borna Sosa

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be targeting versatile Stuttgart defender Borna Sosa ahead of a possible summer move.

The Lowdown: Spurs make transfer plans…

Sporting director Fabio Paratici is reportedly preparing for what will be a very busy summer at Spurs.

Manager Antonio Conte is being repeatedly linked with a move away from north London and his contract is set to expire at the end of this Premier League season.

The Lilywhites have apparently drawn up a shortlist of managerial candidates to succeed Conte, which includes Mauricio Pochettino, Roberto De Zerbi, Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank.

As well as this, star striker Harry Kane’s contract is set to expire in 2024, putting pressure on Spurs to either agree a renewal or contemplate selling.

For any prospective new head Spurs coach, it is the job of Paratici to back him in the summer market, with a central defender thought to be high on their agenda later this year.

The Latest: Tottenham target Sosa…

According to a report by German news publication Sport Bild, via Sport Witness, Tottenham are among the ‘interested parties’ eyeing a move for Sosa.

The Stuttgart ace, who featured for Croatia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is a man in demand with both Real Sociedad and Sevilla also targeting him.

Spurs’ interest could be boosted by the 25-year-old’s stance on leaving, with this report claiming it is no secret he would be ‘tempted by a transfer’ at the end of this campaign.

The Verdict: Great player…

The Croatian could be a brilliant signing for Spurs, especially going by both his affordable price tag and ability in the Bundesliga.

Reports suggest Sosa could cost as little as £25 million to prise away from Stuttgart in the summer and his stats in the German top flight hint this is certainly a valuation worth contemplating.

According to WhoScored, the versatile defender, who can play both at left-back and on the left-wing, has registered more league assists than any other Stuttgart player with an impressive six – double that of second-placed Tiago Tomas.

The attack-minded Sosa stands out as Stuttgart’s second-best performer by average match rating, all the while completing more key passes per 90 in the final third than any of his teammates (WhoScored).

If Spurs wish to add more threat down the left, and perhaps an alternative to Ben Davies/Ivan Perisic, Sosa appears to be a player well worth considering.
