Tottenham are ‘also’ keeping an eye on Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers to potentially replace manager Antonio Conte, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Spurs draw shortlist…
Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici has apparently drawn up a shortlist of managerial candidates to succeed the head coach as his future looks away from north London.
Conte was already linked with leaving Tottenham at the end of this Premier League season but a tepid, midweek Champions League defeat to AC Milan only pushed him further to the door.
In the past few days, a plethora of Conte alternatives have been mentioned through the press as supporters campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s return.
The Latest: Tottenham eye Rodgers…
New names are appearing consistently with talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook now sharing what he’s heard.
The journalist believes Rodgers, currently in charge at the King Power Stadium, is ‘also’ in the frame.
When asked about Tottenham’s current managerial situation, Crook explained:
“The other name that’s been mentioned to me is Brendan Rodgers. Tottenham also admire his brand of football.”
The Verdict: Solid candidate?
Of course, the elephant in the room when discussing Rodgers as a candidate is Leicester’s current struggles.
The Foxes are currently battling relegation to England’s second tier with only Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth conceding more goals against this season.
However, you can also make the argument that Rodgers hasn’t been financially backed due to Leicester’s off-field struggles.
Pundits have also endorsed the 50-year-old’s style of play as ‘exactly what Tottenham want and would suit’, not to mention he has experience winning league titles at Celtic.
Chairman Daniel Levy has his eye on the Northern Irishman when searching for Jose Mourinho’s replacement and we believe there is little surprise he is under consideration again.
