Journalist Tom Barclay has reacted to and shared a ‘standout’ message from chairman Daniel Levy after Tottenham‘s financial results.

The Lowdown: Spurs make off-field announcement…

Earlier this week, Spurs finally announced their financial results for the year ending June 2022.

The Lilywhites posted total revenue increases of 22.7 per cent, bettering their previous number of £361.9m in 2021 to a much more promising £440 million.

Tottenham enjoyed their first full season post-COVID 19 pandemic and clearly saw the benefit of supporters returning to their brand new state of the art ground.

However, in a message from Levy, the club chief also admitted that aspects of Tottenham’s running can seriously be improved upon.

The Latest: Journalist shares ‘standout’ Levy message…

Taking to Twitter, journalist Barclay picked out a particularly ‘interesting’ line from Levy in Spurs’ financial statement.

He said:

Interesting read from Spurs’ financial results for year end June 30, 2022. A standout line from Daniel Levy’s statement to me is this: “We have felt, and continue to feel, the financial impact of supporting player purchases which have not worked out as planned.”

The Verdict: Intriguing…

It’s arguably clear whom Levy is referring to in his line.

Club record signing Tanguy Ndombele has failed to deliver since joining Spurs from Lyon in the summer of 2019, going on two separate loan stints since January 2022 as Tottenham attempt to increase his market value.

The Frenchman displayed flashes of brilliance but a seemingly lazy demeanour, often being criticised for the yards he ran whilst playing Premier League football.

Another example, Giovani Lo Celso, couldn’t exactly turn it on either with the Argentine now out on a temporary deal at Villarreal.

Sergio Reguilon, now on loan at Atletico Madrid, may also fall into this category with it being clear Levy and transfer chiefs must improve in this regard.

As manager Antonio Conte‘s future remains up in the air, the Italian will be analysing the club’s transfer policy and wondering if he should indeed commit his future.
