Tottenham: Sky journalist shares Spurs takeover update

Tottenham-Hotspur-Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - October 12, 2022. Tottenham Hotspur players walk out onto the pitch.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has shared what he’s heard on a proposed Tottenham takeover amid rumours of an imminent bid.

The Lowdown: Najafi plots Spurs offer…

US-Iranian billionaire Jahm Najafi of MSP Sports Capital is rumoured to be plotting an imminent $3.75bn (£3.11bn) offer to buy Spurs.

The formal approach, as first revealed by The Financial Times, is set to be made ‘within weeks’ as Najafi makes his interest in the Premier League side known.

ENIC and Spurs owner Joe Lewis are been rumoured to be open to a sale for the right price with reports suggesting the club are valued between £4bn-£4.5bn.

The Latest: Solhekol shares Spurs update…

Contrary to the aforementioned claims, Solhekol of Sky Sports believes Spurs aren’t for sale unless they receive a ‘sky high offer’.

He explained:

“My understanding of the situation is that only a sky high offer would ever tempt Tottenham’s owners to sell the club, and that would need to be considerably higher, for instance, than the £2.5 billion that Todd Boehly and Clearlake capital paid for Chelsea.”

The Verdict: Conflicting reports…

This update comes in opposition to reports that ENIC and Lewis are secretly open to selling Spurs, as claimed by journalist Sami Mokbel.

Conflicting updates appear set to emerge on the Spurs takeover topic until Najafi and MSP Sports Capital do in fact lodge a formal offer for the club with no bid tabled just yet.

It will be interesting to see if the Lilywhites could in fact be tempted to sell and just how much a ‘sky high offer’ would look like.

Going by other reports, it would appear that Najafi and co may have to consider bidding higher than the proposed £3.1 billion and perhaps closer to £4 billion.

The major sticking point is whether Tottenham are in fact worth that much given Forbes actually value the club at around £2 billion.
