Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a ‘sensational’ potential heir to Hugo Lloris in Lens goalkeeper Brice Samba, according to reports.
The Lowdown: Lloris’ time ending?
Spurs manager Antonio Conte has apparently made a ‘massive decision’ regarding the veteran France international, with the Premier League giants now looking at his future heirs as they draw up a shortlist (TEAMtalk).
It is claimed that Tottenham are eyeing Jordan Pickford, Robert Sanchez and Illan Meslier as possible candidates, with it being ‘unlikely’ that the 35-year-old Frenchman remains their number one after this season.
Lloris’ contract expires in 2024, giving him another 18 months or so at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, due to the notion that he has been ‘up and down’ in terms of form, the north Londoners could elect to bring in a new number one ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Latest: Spurs eyeing Samba…
The aforementioned information comes courtesy of journalist Graeme Bailey, with the same reporter now providing an update on who Spurs could target to potentially succeed Lloris.
Indeed, according to his latest report, Lens goalkeeper Samba is now being monitored by the north Londoners, with Bailey claiming that the former Nottingham Forest man is having a ‘sensational‘ season in Ligue 1.
Writing for 90min, the journalist claims that Tottenham are keeping tabs on the 28-year-old alongside a few of their English top-flight rivals in Everton, Leicester City and Chelsea.
The Verdict: Good candidate?
While Samba is very much impressing on the continent, another incentive to consider him is the player’s starring role at Forest which helped them to secure top-flight promotion last season.
Dubbed ‘phenomenal’ by news producer Ryan Conway, the Frenchman performed brilliantly during the Reds’ play-off run and earned real plaudits for some heroic moments in that campaign.
He could be the ideal figure to step into Lloris’ shoes, not least due to his relatively young age for a goalkeeper and potentially long shelf life.
