Tottenham: Spurs hatch Yassine Bounou transfer plan

Morocco v Comoros - Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaounde, Cameroon - January 14, 2022, Morocco's Yassine Bounou during the warm up.

Tottenham have hatched a transfer plan as they eye a move for Sevilla goalkeeping star Yassine ‘Bono’ Bounou, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Spurs interested…

Recent claims have suggested that the 31-year-old is a player of real interest to Spurs as Antonio Conte‘s side search for a long-term Hugo Lloris replacement.

The north Londoners are apparently on the look out for a shot-stopper who can fill Lloris’ boots as the France international nears the end of his time at Hotspur Way.

Jordan Pickford and Illan Meslier are also among the goalkeepers linked with a potential move to Tottenham but a report from La Razon has now shared an interesting Bounou update.

The Latest: Tottenham hatch Bono transfer plan…

According to the Spanish media outlet, Spurs want to use young midfielder Bryan Gil, currently on loan at Sevilla, in  a possible swap deal for Bono to lower the player’s price tag.

It’s claimed that Tottenham are ‘confident of achieving a significant reduction’ by including Gil in a proposed deal with ‘Bono’ currently commanding a €50 million (£44m) release clause.

Finding an heir to Lloris has apparently ‘become an obsession’ for Tottenham, so much so that they have set their sights on Bounou whilst hatching this plan.

The Verdict: Right move?

This update comes as a bit of a mixed bag considering the real potential Gil still carries.

Unable to get a look-in under Conte, there is no guarantee the Italian stays at N17 past the 2022/2023 campaign, potentially opening the door for Gil to become a future key player.

The importance of finding a successor for Lloris is important and we believe Bono is certainly a top candidate for the role.

The Morocco international starred for his nation on their run to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar last year with national team boss Walid Regragui even calling him ‘one of the best’ keepers on the planet.

Members of the media also branded him ‘world class‘ for his performances in the Middle East, thereby raising the player’s stock and making him a man in demand.

There is no denying the African’s obvious class, but a potential Gil-swap may come as bitter news for some Spurs supporters who want to see their midfielder eventually blossom in England.
