There has been a very mixed response from a lot of Aston Villa fans after journalist Gregg Evans has reported that the club were close to signing both Benjamin Pavard and Joe Gomez, via The Athletic.
According to Evans, Gomez was offered more money by Villa but despite this he chose a move to Liverpool instead. Meanwhile, Pavard was available for less than £1 million at the time and even watched a game at Villa Park but in the end a deal didn’t happen.
Pavard, who now plays for Bayern Munich, recently won the World Cup with France in 2018, whilst he currently sits at the top of the Bundesliga with the defending champions having played 23 games this term, via Transfermarkt.
Gomez has also enjoyed a great career so far, recently winning the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019 and he also sits at the top of the Premier League at the moment, via Transfermarkt. Added to that, he is also a full England international and has already won eight caps in his fledgling career.
Both are under the age of 25, via WhoScored, as well, so they will surely further improve and win more silverware both domestically and potentially at international level too.
Many Villa fans have been reacting differently to the news that they almost signed the duo. Some are gutted that they didn’t manage to get them, whilst others insist that they would probably have not turned out as good had they moved to Villa Park.
Here is what some had to say…
– Villa offered Gomez more money but he chose #LFC
– Pavard was available for less than £1m and even watched a game at VP!

Yeah, we would’ve turned Gomez into the next James Bree and Bruce would’ve got rid of Pavard like he did Amavi.
