Everton fans are delighted with the news that Mason Holgate has committed his future to the club and signed a new five-year deal. Still, there’s another man they want to tie down for a bit longer…
Indeed, these Toffees are desperate to keep Leighton Baines at the club for at least another year, with many fans adamant they need him in the squad.
Merseyside-born Baines has been a part of the Everton set up since 2007 and also enjoyed a youth career with the Blues as well. The 35-year-old has made 417 appearances for the club and has tallied 39 goals and 67 assists from left-back (via Transfermarkt).
Since the arrival of Lucas Digne, Baines has seen less and less first-team action, though his performance against Manchester United has certainly excited fans on social media.
Plenty of Blues supporters are imploring the club to offer him a new contract, and for him to accept and stay with Everton a little longer. One fan has described him as ‘still the best in the business’ while others hail him as an ‘Everton legend’.
