Many Everton fans are furious over the VAR decision to overturn a goal that many are adamant should have stood, as one supporter labelled it ‘disgusting’.
The Toffees took an extremely early lead through Dominic Calvert-Lewin in what would turn out to be one of the most dramatic games of the season. Indeed, after Manchester United retaliated with a Bruno Fernandes goal, the match looked like it would end 1-1 and the spoils would be shared.
However, in the second minute of stoppage time, Calvert-Lewin fired a low ball past David de Gea and into the back of the net. Goodison Park erupted but elation quickly turned to hostility as VAR chalked off what would have been the late winner.
In an extremely tight call, Everton were denied their second of the game through the observation that Gylfi Sigurdsson was offside. The Icelandic midfielder was brought down in the box mere seconds before the shot came flying into the area and ricocheted off Harry Maguire. Sigurdsson appears to move his feet out of the way to not get a touch on the ball, but VAR thought otherwise.
Referees including Mark Clattenburg claim that the goal should have been allowed, vouching that the ball did not touch Sigurdsson on the way in and the 30-year-old was not obstructing de Gea’s view. And, after beIN Sports revealed the league’s reasoning for chalking off the goal, fans took to Twitter to react…

🤦🏼♂️ unbelievable but not surprising. Would accept it if ref made a mistake but not VAR. How are they still getting this wrong so far into the season
