According to The Mirror, Everton are monitoring Porto winger Yacine Brahimi, ahead of a move this January.

The Algeria international's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, which means Everton may be able to purchase the 28-year-old for a relatively cheap price.

While Everton have made it clear that they are trying to recruit another winger this January, given their interest in Barcelona's Malcom too, they may be guilty of not looking under their nose for a replacement.

The Toffees currently have 21-year-old Ademola Lookman in their ranks, who seemingly is being perpetually overlooked by manager Marco Silva. In order for the England under-21 international to truly establish himself at Goodison Park, the club will need to stop blocking his path.

Lookman has only been given one Premier League start so far this season, and cannot force his way into the starting XI after a wonderful loan spell at Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig last season. By bringing in Brahimi, The Toffees are likely to curtail the winger's development even further.

Brahimi may indeed be a better player than Lookman currently, but it is about potential and the future of Everton that is also a factor here, and Lookman is a much brighter prospect in the long-term.

If Everton do indeed land this deal for Brahimi, it sends very ominous signs to Lookman as to how he is viewed by Silva, and should probably start looking for a move elsewhere for the sake of his career.
