As Blues fans flocked to wish David Weir a happy 50th birthday, many are reflecting on his Everton career and are singing his praises.
The defender joined the ranks of Goodison Park back in 1999 for a fee of just £200,000 (via Toffeeweb), moving from his home country to play in England for the first time. Weir joined from Hearts and spent eight years with the Merseyside outfit before leaving on a free to join Rangers, where he retired five years later (via Transfermarkt).
Should Everton keep or sell Morgan Schneiderlin?
The Scotsman made a total of 254 appearances for Everton and scored ten goals during his time in Blue (also Transfermarkt). Weir has made the tenth most appearances for the club during the Premier League era with 235 (via 11v11).
Toffees have flooded to the birthday tweet to show their appreciation to the club icon. One fan has said he was an ‘absolute bargain’ whilst others have branded him an ‘underrated player’.
Proper solid defender and model pro!

As well as being a great centre half, he was also a brilliant captain. I personally don’t think we have ever replaced him as captain.
Happy birthday Davie.
