Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes that Patrick van Aanholt would be a shrewd addition at Elland Road this summer.

Left-back looks to be area of the pitch where could need reinforcements ahead of next season, with Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas set to move on.

With Leif Davis still a maturing talent, a more established player in that position could be exactly what Marcelo Bielsa is seeking.

Mills talks up Van Aanholt move

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Leeds right-back Mills claimed that Crystal Palace star Van Aanholt - a reported transfer target for the Whites - would make an ideal addition, given his experience and quality:

"I think he’s a good player. He’s got an awful lot of quality to offer. He’s somebody with experience, he’s been in the Premier League now for some time.

"Someone with experience that comes in and do a really good job. He’s an international.

"He adds more quality and maybe that’s the sort of signing that takes Leeds to the next level."

The 30-year-old's current Palace deal expires at the end of the season, so Leeds would then be able to snap him up on a free transfer.

Transfer Tavern take

Van Aanholt would seem to be a good signing for Leeds, should they manage to get a deal over the line. The Dutchman may not be the most spectacular player, or a long-term prospect, but he has years of experience in the Premier League (209 appearances) and is effective at both ends of the pitch.

He has averaged 1.6 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game this season, while he has a decent haul of 21 goals and 15 assists at top-flight level over the course of his career.
