Liverpool fans on Twitter have been going to town on Gabriel Jesus

During the summer plenty of Liverpool fans were shocked and appalled by the decision from Tite, the Brazil manager, to bench Roberto Firmino for Gabriel Jesus at the World Cup and now the world is seeing why. Jesus has looked sluggish and poor since the end of last season whilst Firmino has kept up is high standards, leaving Liverpool fans slating the Manchester City man.

Gabriel Jesus was given a place in the starting lineup yesterday for City as they hosted Lyon in the Champions League but it was an uneventful evening for the Brazilian. The only thing of note in the game that involved him was when he went down in the box under a very weak challenge, prompting the referee to tell him to get up and rival fans on Twitter to slate him for diving. He was then hooked after 63 minutes as Sergio Aguero entered the fray.

Meanwhile, just 24 hours prior to Gabriel Jesus’ disasterclass at The Etihad, Firmino was given a place on the bench for Liverpool as they hosted PSG at Anfield. An eye injury suffered against Spurs kept him from starting but that didn’t stop him stepping up and scoring a dramatic late winner off the bench. The Reds were in raptures and now we’ve seen both Firmino and Jesus play in European competition the Kopites have been slating the City man.

The Liverpool fans aren’t having anyone claim Jesus is better than Firmino and will be keen to see their frontman finally usurp Jesus at international level over the next few months.
