Manchester United: Some fans fume at Harry Maguire after Burnley defeat

Manchester United’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of Burnley on Wednesday had fans fuming at the team’s performance, with many leaving early to avoid watching the game any longer. One disappointing performer was Harry Maguire, who faced criticism for his inability to command his own box.
The Englishman won nine of his 12 aerial duels, but that wasn’t enough to stop Burnley netting twice. For the first goal, he didn’t mark Chris Wood well enough to prevent him from hooking the ball into the net from close range, and he was rated 6.8/10 by WhoScored for the game, and that’s even less than the much-ridiculed Phil Jones who was rated 7.2/10.
During the match, Man United stats account @utdarena on Twitter complained about the 26-year-old’s defending for the goal, calling it “shocking”. Many fans replied to the tweet to show how much they agreed with the opinion and to slate Maguire for his form.
Maguire’s defending on that goal was shocking. Wood’s movement completely fools him and he’s able to get a yard on him from a headered knockdown in the box.
Shocking.

His defending in most situautions is horrible. Massivley overrated because of his passport.

He’s going to be one of our worst signings. I honestly thought he’d come in and have a similar impact to VVD. Clearly not as good, but could have similar impact. Completely wrong, he’s a waste of space.

Always shocking…

Always thought Maguire was just a slightly above average CB and nothing more. If he was 22-23, there’s still room to improve and reach a world class level, but at 26-27, that’s usually a CB entering their peak. Not going to get too much better from there on out.

Man United fans, what did you make of Harry Maguire’s performance against Burnley?
