Joelinton became Newcastle’s record signing last summer when he joined the Magpies in a £40m deal (as per BBC) but he has so far endured a miserable season in front of goal.
The 23-year-old Brazilian striker has now failed to score in his last 14 Premier League appearances after drawing yet another blank for Steve Bruce’s side in the 0-1 defeat at Burnley today, having been shifted to a wide role from his usual centre-forward position.
Joelinton played for the full 90 minutes at Turf Moor but only had two shots all afternoon, neither of which were on target, while he was guilty of poor ball control on four occasions against the Clarets. [via WhoScored]
He passed up a good chance to equalise for Newcastle in the 64th minute when Andy Carroll provided him with an inviting cross, only to steer his header wide, with Chronicle Live reporter Lee Ryder saying that he “lacked impact” against Burnley and giving him only five in his player ratings.
These Newcastle fans on Twitter lamented Joelinton’s latest goalless display, with some calling for Yoshinori Muto to replace him in attack:
I’d rather see Muto given the chance then joelinton

We should cut our losses on Joelinton. 40 million dodgy deal. 1 goal in 16. #nufc
