It's clear that for Man Utd, the only goal is to regain the Premier League title. The Red Devils haven't won the English top flight since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, though Jose Mourinho has brought them closest thus far. Clearly, though, further improvements are needed if Man Utd are to have any chance of winning the title, and according to AS, they could be willing to do just that. The Spanish outlet reports that Toni Kroos is a key target of the Red Devils this summer, and a move for the German could be just what they need.

The Breakdown

Kroos, of course, would be a very expensive signing, but he is exactly what Man Utd lack. Nemanja Matic offers the defensive edge that Man Utd require, whilst Paul Pogba, and now Fred, will be able to offer some much-needed energy through the midfield. However, what they don't have is a midfield creator - and they'd find exactly that in Kroos.

The German midfielder is up there with Europe's best when it comes to creating magic. His ability with the ball at his feet is second-to-none, and alongside Luka Modric at Real Madrid, he's been one of the stars of the show over in Spain. Last season he picked up 5 league goals and 7 league assists, and that indicates the sort of influence that he can have. Playing in a midfield three would allow him to play further upfield, too, and so you'd expect those numbers to improve were he to move to Old Trafford.

Man Utd's midfield is at a very interesting point. Personnel-wise, there's arguably no stronger group in England, yet further improvement is needed. With Kroos in the team to focus on creating, that would also reduce the need for the likes of Pogba and Matic to work in that way - instead allowing them to focus on what they do best. Not to mention, his experience could be invaluable.

A move for Kroos would be expensive, but it would be huge for the club, and the creative edge could be the difference between winning and not winning the title next season.
