The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager to see another huge name come to Old Trafford this summer. The Red Devils recently confirmed the signing of Fred, much to the joy of our resident fans.
However, whilst the move will be significant in the context of the season, the Brazilian isn’t the sort of player that will catapult the club back to the top of the Premier League table. That would require a move for one of Europe’s best, and one player that certainly falls under that banner is Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, who is rated at £99 million by Transfer Markt.
Granted, a move for Hazard would be incredibly audacious, and you could argue that it would be one of the most surprising deals in recent memory, but stranger things have happened. Nobody would have expected a year ago that Alexis Sanchez would be at Old Trafford, or that Neymar would be at PSG – and so Man Utd signing Hazard isn’t overly unrealistic, especially given Chelsea’s current situation.
Hazard would offer so much to this team. As one of the Premier League’s best players, there is no doubting that he has the talent to transform this team. Lethal in front of goal, stunning when driving at defenders, and often impossible to deal with, the Belgian has been dominating the English top flight for years.
Last season, which was generally a poor one for all at Chelsea, he bagged 12 league goals, which is a tally that would put him amongst Man Utd’s most lethal players. Not to mention, his quality extends far beyond his goalscoring record.
Contextually, a move may make some sense. Jose Mourinho got the best out of Hazard when they linked up at Stamford Bridge, and so the move may be tempting for both parties. Furthermore, Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football next season could be a problem – given that a player like Hazard should really bee playing in Europe’s premier competition.
It would be a shock, but a move for someone like Hazard is what Man Utd need to turn into title winners. He’s truly that good.
