All the punters here in the Transfer Tavern had their eyes glued to our TV yesterday evening as Liverpool and Tottenham played out a genuine Premier League classic at Anfield in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
In a game full of incident, one of the main talking points to have emerged has been whether or not Harry Kane dived for his opening penalty against the Reds, one he went onto miss. According to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk, the England international did, as well as teammate Erik Lamela, who won the second spot-kick deep into added time.
Kane, the darling of English football, did so much to invoke the ire of our local Kopites on his way to scoring his 100th Premier League goal and it seems those on Twitter feel the same. Interestingly enough, it seems some on social media are comparing him with England teammate Jamie Vardy, who many feel dives to win penalties.
The Leicester City star isn’t a popular figure amongst the Spurs support and there’s a lot of comparison emerging online. Some are saying he ‘did a Vardy’, while others believe the Foxes ace would get far more criticism if he performed the same action.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the talk online.
Not being all blinkered liverpool here …on the Kane diving incident… I reckon most strikers would go down when a keeper dives at there feet at pace.. Aguero Vardy Kane.. they all do it. Whether it's right tho??

Thought Kane “did a Vardy” for the first pen…and was also offside. Second was a pen, painfully correct…had hoped Moss had decided to ignore it after the first effup…but the lino, pissed that Moss ignored him for the first, made sure he got his way 2nd time round. #lfc

That is the worst dive and penalty I’ve ever seen from Harry Kane. Imagine, if that’s Vardy that does that?! Papers and pundits would be slaying him for ages!

That was a Vardy dive from Kane, forcing contact and hitting the deck
