Arsenal finally ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title this season, but attention has already turned towards building a squad capable of going one step further in Europe.
Despite the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres last summer, there remains a belief that Mikel Arteta could benefit from additional firepower in the final third as the Gunners look to compete on multiple fronts once again.
One name has repeatedly been linked with a move to north London in recent months, but Arsenal may now face serious competition from the reigning European champions.
PSG to Rival Arsenal for Alvarez
According to The Independent, Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to challenge Arsenal in the race to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine forward, described as “special” by former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, enjoyed another impressive campaign in Spain, scoring 20 goals across all competitions.
Arsenal have long admired Alvarez and view him as a player capable of adding another dimension to their attack. However, PSG are now believed to be willing to meet Atletico Madrid’s hefty valuation of around €125 million (£108 million).
Barcelona are understood to be Alvarez’s preferred destination, but the Spanish champions currently face financial limitations that make a deal difficult to complete.
That situation has opened the door for both Arsenal and PSG, with the French giants seemingly ready to make a major push if the opportunity arises.
Interestingly, the two clubs are also monitoring Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi, highlighting how closely their transfer plans could overlap this summer.
For Arsenal, Alvarez remains an ambitious target, but convincing Atletico to sell — while fending off PSG’s financial power — will be far from straightforward.
