Raid on Newcastle United for Elias Sorensen may help bring the good times back to Stoke City

According to a recent report from The Newcastle Chronicle, Newcastle United youngster Elias Sorensen could seek a loan move in the January transfer window. The 19-year-old has come up through the ranks at St James’ Park to become a regular in the Magpies’ development squad, with a staggering amount of goals underlining just how bright a future he has in the game.

And reports suggest that the man himself is eyeing up a possible loan move this month in a bid for the first team football he is unlikely to get under Rafa Benitez, with Championship outfit Stoke City one side who must raid the Magpies for the exciting sensation in a bid to bring the good times back to the bet365 Stadium.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, it has been a testing second tier campaign for the Potters following their dismal relegation from the Premier League last time round, with Gary Rowett eventually paying for his team’s lacklustre season with his job on Tuesday.

The Staffordshire-based outfit, tipped by many during pre-season to be challenging for promotion this term, currently find themselves 14th in the Championship table and having won only eight of their 26 league games this term, with part of the problem their lowly tally of 31 goals in that time.

In fact, Benik Afobe is currently the club’s top goal-scorer with just seven goals so far this term, and given he embarked on a goalless run of 12 league matches earlier in the campaign, it’s clear just how much strengthening those forward ranks need at Stoke if they are to make their way up the division.

And while it would be something of a risk, luring the hugely exciting Sorensen, who has been scoring goals for fun in youth football in recent times, would be one step in the direction of bringing the good times back to Stoke City.

The 19-year-old has been in remarkable goal-scoring form ever since making the move to Newcastle back in 2016, netting 15 goals for the club’s Under-18 side in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 campaigns, before making the step up to the development squad this time round to very good effect indeed.

And that’s because the Denmark Under-19 international has scored 15 goals in just 16 appearances for the club’s Under-23 team this term, 11 of which coming in 12 Premier League 2 appearances to help the Magpies to sixth place in the second division – clearly, he is in scintillating form.

And while he has yet to make the step up to senior football at Newcastle, there appears little doubt that Sorensen is destined for huge things in the game, with the man himself just waiting for that opportunity to prove his worth on the professional scene – Stoke could give him that chance.

And with the Potters in need of an injection of impetus and excitement heading into the second half of the Championship season, not least more goals in the squad, the young Newcastle sensation could well be the man to help bring the good times back to Stoke this term.
