Rangers: Fans call for changes at Ibrox after Andrew Dickson tweet

A number of Rangers fans have called for changes to be made regarding some aspects of the matchday experience at Ibrox following a tweet from freelance journalist Andrew Dickson (via @mrandrewdickson).

I don’t think Rangers could ever replicate things to the same standard unless they knocked Ibrox down and started again. That said, they could certainly take a lot on board from how things are done at Spurs. Several improvements that are unquestionably achievable.

He tweeted about his experience at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night, where he watched Spurs’ FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough, believing that Rangers could learn a lot from the London club if Ibrox was to be modernised, redeveloped or rebuilt.

One notable feature of Tottenham’s stadium, which opened last April at a cost of £1billion [as per Evening Standard], is that cash payments are not accepted, with spectators instead invited to pay by debit/credit card, contactless or mobile payment (as per tottenhamhotspur.com)

Ibrox last saw significant development in the 1990s when its capacity was increased to more than 50,000 following renovations, with a further capacity increase to 51,082 after three new rows of seating were added to the upper tier of the Govan Stand. [via gersnet.co.uk]

Following Dickson’s tweet about Tottenham’s ground, these Rangers fans took to Twitter to ask for some changes at Ibrox, with cashless payments and an improvement on food and drink options among the calls made by supporters:

Not sure how it would be too difficult to have a heated concourse in some areas of the ground and provide better food and drink options in concourse.

Things like contactless payments & wifi are easy quick fixes.
Range, quality, & pricing of food one of the biggest issues at Ibrox.
Spurs created an environment with sports bars, etc, where supporters don’t want to rush away from the stadium after the game.
