Usually, when a manager wins a game to send their side top of the league it’s all smiles afterwards. Not with Steven Gerrard, though. The ex-Liverpool and England captain had a strong message after his side’s 1-0 win over Hamilton, as he brushed away ‘top of the league’ comments and complained about his side’s lack of killer instinct.

Whilst on the face of things, Gerrard’s comments may look out of place, he’s absolutely right. The Gers went ahead against Hamilton thanks to an early Daniel Candeias strike but then failed to add to that despite the fact they could easily have found themselves two or three goals in front after just ten minutes given the quality of the chances they produced.
That’s exactly where their gaffer’s comments about a killer instinct have come from. Gerrard’s side may have taken the top spot with their win seeing as Celtic faltered away at Hibs earlier that day, but the win wasn’t enough to please Gerrard and he’d have preferred it if his side had killed off their opponents on what was a frustrating day for both the fans and the gaffer at Ibrox.

We need an answer to getting this killer instinct. Not troubling keepers from 21 corners is the very problem we've had since getting back into the Premier league. Do we need to buy it in January, or work on it at training?

The Bluenoses will be confident that Gerrard can implement the killer touch they need, and will just hope that he can instill it in his players sooner rather than later with the Old Firm looming between Christmas and New Year.
