Rangers fans had the joy of seeing a few debuts yesterday during their 3-2 friendly win over HJK Helsinki at Ibrox yesterday, with Steven Davis, Jermain Defoe and Jordan Houston all making their first appearances. However, the fans were focusing on Defoe after the game, even though the veteran striker couldn’t score on his first outing.
Nice to make my @RangersFC debut today! Thank you to all the fans, can’t wait for a league game next… pic.twitter.com/vdOremMaZy

Defoe did have a cracking opportunity to open his Rangers account against Helsinki, when he was found on the edge of the six-yard box by Ryan Jack, although he could only slot it wide whilst looking for the far corner. That chance won’t bother him, though, and with the opportunity of a competitive debut in just two days time against Kilmarnock, Defoe will be chomping at the bit to find the net.
With the ex-England international now back in the fold, Steven Gerrard has a number of options up front. Alfredo Morelos, Kyle Lafferty and Defoe have all got it in them to score important goals, and with the boost in firepower, a lot of the Bluenoses are backing themselves to go on and achieve big things this season. It could still be a bit early for title number 55 yet though.
You can read the Bluenoses’ thoughts on Defoe’s debut here:
great to have you here Jermain , hope you enjoy your time at Ibrox (especially getting the 55 !)

The Bluenoses are already infatuated with Defoe and they’ll be absolutely beside themselves when he scores his first Rangers goal.
