A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have been fuming over the treatment that their team receives from officials in the Premiership.
Their 2-2 draw with Hibernian yesterday featured some contentious flashpoints in which ‘Gers players were on the receiving end, with Paul Hanlon elbowing Ianis Hagi in the first half and Ryan Porteous taking out Alfredo Morelos (as per Sky Sports).
While referee Don Robertson issued yellow cards over both of those incidents, Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard felt after the match that “there could have been more action taken” from the officials (as per Glasgow Live).
Those bookings were among four shown to Hibs players yesterday, compared to just one for the ‘Gers, while the home side also committed more fouls (17 to 14) at Easter Road (as per Sofascore).
This is the second weekend in a row in which referees have provoked complaints from the Ibrox faithful – last week, many ‘Gers fans hit out at Kevin Clancy over his officiating in the 4-0 win against Dundee United, a game which saw Brandon Barker forced off after a knee-high challenge from Liam Smith which failed to elicit a red card.
These ‘Gers supporters took to Twitter to vent at the officials from yesterday, with one fearing that the standard of refereeing in Scotland could affect their hopes of winning a first Premiership title in 10 years as their lead over Celtic is now down to just a single point:
Sickening refereeing again, gers players were assaulted the whole game yet nothing as usual from rangers, will cost us the league guaranteed

Thought it was a decent game and by far the biggest test so far.The refereeing is shocking tho, just a matter of time before someone gets a serious injury if they keep allowing some of they tackles without even getting a booking. Any other league there would of been a sending off

The question that is always on our minds @4ladshadadream is would,it be the same if it was our team dishing it out? Jack or Morelos would be sent off for both elbow smashes

Say it every week, our players get assaulted every game we play..is their still a refs supervisor because the club should be on the blower to them every Monday morning so far this season

The stamp on Kent was a nailed on yellow. When he doesn’t give that it’s the green light for an already aggressive side. The fact Morelos was carded for dissent for a blatant obstruction is Groundhog Day.

Scottish refs just don’t seem to have a “feel” for the game. Robertson’s letting far too much go

The refs all know what’s ‘at stake’ tho so players have carte blanche to go in studs and elbows up on our players.
