Glasgow Rangers are plotting a move to sign midfielder Todd Cantwell this year, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Beale’s first window

The Norwich City star will be out of contract at the end of the season, and having not yet put pen to paper on fresh terms, has been generating plenty of interest at Carrow Road.

Michael Beale is now almost two weeks into his first transfer window at Ibrox, and with the opportunity to bring in some of his own players, appears to have targeted the 24-year-old with the aim of bringing him to the Scottish Premiership.

The Latest: Rangers eyeing Cantwell

According to The Sun, Gers are ‘exploring the possibility’ of making an approach for Cantwell having been put on the club’s ‘hit list’, created by Beale himself.

The Light Blues boss is set to make the decisive call on whether he moves for him this month or tries to negotiate a pre-contract agreement to take him on a free in the summer.

Glasgow could reportedly prove a ‘tempting next home’ for the Canaries maestro should Ross Wilson and Co step up their interest in the coming days.

The Verdict: Potential bargain

Cantwell hasn’t been able to make a significant impact at Norwich this season having fallen out of favour, but Rangers would still be getting a bargain should they be able to land him on a cut-price or free deal.

The Dereham-born talent has clocked up 26 goal contributions during his time with the Yellows and has the ability to operate in three different positions, where he’s previously been labelled a ‘high energy’ player by Josh Bunting (Transfermarkt).

Beale recently addressed the Cantwell rumours and refused to shut down any links by admitting that he could be looking for a fresh start to reignite his career, so this could definitely be one to watch.
