Glasgow Rangers are reportedly already laying the groundwork to potentially replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Ibrox.

The Lowdown: Under pressure

The 47-year-old is a man under pressure after the Light Blues' 3-1 defeat at home to Ajax in the Champions League made them statistically the worst-ever team in the competition.

They lost all six of their group games and finished on a -20 goal difference (UEFA), a sheer contrast to the European campaign they had last season when they reached the Europa League final and only lost on penalties in Seville.

The Latest: Rangers active behind the scenes

As per Football Insider, Rangers are already laying out the groundwork for Van Bronckhorst to potentially be replaced.

It is thought that they are paving the way behind the scenes for a possible managerial change by doing background checks and compiling a shortlist of potential replacements.

The Gers are set to make contact with those candidates, with Van Bronckhorst himself believed to have 'told friends' that he is wary of getting the sack.

There is 'great concern' amongst the board over the 'sterility' of domestic performances, with one 'major criticism' of Van Bronckhorst's side being 'little sign of a defined playing style' and the 'over-reliance on individual inspiration to overcome opponents'.

The Verdict: Time to go?

With the break for the World Cup coming up, now is the best time for Rangers to part ways with Van Bronckhorst, duly giving them enough time to find a suitable replacement ahead of the New Year.

They have only won one of their last four matches in all competitions, and October's results included a 7-1 drubbing at home to Liverpool (Sky Sports).

The Teddy Bears are out of Europe altogether now and are four points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Premiership.

Their style of play has rightfully been criticised, so before matters get worse, it may now be time to let Van Bronckhorst leave Ibrox.
