Rangers have been having a tough season back in the top-flight of Scottish football but they more than showed their pedigree during their 1-1 draw with Celtic this weekend, leaving their fans here in the pub a lot happier than they have been!

Gers battled throughout the match and although their bitter rivals had a far superior side on paper, in reality it was a good showing in what will be Graeme Murty’s final game in-charge at the club.

Pre-match talk in the tavern was dominated by Pedro Caixinha’s appointment at the helm of Ibrox and he’ll be happy with what he saw at Parkhead in a game that might, on another day, have been won by Gers.

But it wasn’t to be and fans can now look forward to the rebuilding project under their new Portuguese leader.

Even the landlord in here is feeling optimistic for the side, and he’s been a terribly hard man to please all season!

So with that in mind, here’s the THREE biggest things we took from the Old Firm draw at Parkhead….

Caixinha has some solid foundations to work with

Granted, this is a Rangers side that is perhaps hanging onto one or two names that helped them through the lower leagues in Scotland.

But after a dogged display against Celtic, their fans here in the Tavern are a lot happier with some of the brighter stars who shone in the game.

The likes of Jason Holt and Josh Windass, when he came on, played very well indeed.

There’s certainly some talent in this side, it just needs to be nurtured.

Kenny Miller is still worthy of a starting place

Not a day goes by here in the pub where we don’t hear something about Kenny Miller from the Rangers corner of the pub and it’s natural – he’s a real Ibrox legend.

And even at 37-years-old, he’s justifying his continued selection in the first-team and carries a real attacking threat going forward.

Of course, he’s a natural fan favourite which always makes things easier too but there’s little doubt Caixinha will be using him in his plans too.

They might be back amongst Celtic in the next couple of years

If you’d have asked most of the Rangers fans here in the pub for a prediction before the game, you’d have been hard-pressed to find many that thought their team was going to win.

But the likes of Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele and and James Forrest were kept quiet for most of the afternoon, despite all of them having been far too lively for other opposition this campaign.

All-in-all, it’s promising stuff for Gers and Caixinha, who will have enjoyed watching his side for the first time.
