Rangers offer trial to former Barcelona youngster

Gai AssulinThere is a feeling of uncertainty mixed with quiet optimism amongst the Rangers regulars at the Transfer Tavern today after they heard reports of a potential starlet on trial.

TalkSport reports that the Scottish side have handed a trial to former Manchester City and Barcelona playmaker Gai Assulin.

The 24-year-old was once thought to be one of the biggest prospects in world football and youth coaches would describe him to have the likeness of Lionel Messi himself. Assulin started his career in the Barcelona B team, where he made 67 appearances over the course of 3 years and netted 13 goals.

After an unsuccessful spell at the Barcelona first-team squad, followed by an equally disappointing period at Manchester City in which he made no senior appearances for either club, Assulin was briefly sent out on-loan.

For whatever reason, the young Israeli midfielder has not lived up to his full potential yet and is currently a free agent after he was released by Real Mallorca in the summer. That may not be the case for much longer as Rangers have taken Assulin on trial as they weigh up the likelihood of a permanent move.

It is expected that the playmaker will train with the Scottish side’s first team over the next couple of weeks while manager, Mark Warburton, makes the final decision.
