Wes Foderingham is prepared to run down his current contract and leave Rangers next summer, according to a report by Football Insider.
They claim the Gers’ second-choice goalkeeper had opportunities to leave the Ibrox outfit in the previous window, with multiple English clubs said to have tried to bring him south of the border.
However, the 28-year-old is believed to have snubbed those offers and will now look to see out the final 12 months of his contract.
Everything appears to have changed at Ibrox for Foderingham following the arrivals of Steven Gerrard and Allan McGregor last summer.
The heavily experienced and former Ger quickly established himself as the new manager’s number one choice and has hardly let the Light Blues down with his contributions over the past year or so. According to Transfermarkt, McGregor has kept 30 clean sheets in his 62 appearances, taking his tally for the Light Blues to 145 in 312 matches over the years.
Foderingham has plenty of experience himself, having played 141 matches across all competitions and being a mainstay in the side (in which he has kept a respectable 54 clean sheets), which has included three appearances this season.
Prior to the summer transfer window, the 28-year-old shot-stopper was expected to hold talks with Gerrard about his future as he had become frustrated at being second fiddle and saw himself as a number one option (Sky Sports).
Indeed, it will surely not come as a surprise that Foderingham has grown tired of sitting on the bench at Rangers and is looking for his way out of the club.
What does strike as surprising, though, is the fact that it seemed as though he had a route out of Ibrox in the transfer window that has just passed, therefore, it seems a little strange as to why he still finds himself in Glasgow.
Rangers, perhaps, would have liked to have cashed in on him if they had the opportunity to do so, but it appears they will lose him on a free transfer next summer.
