With the January transfer window edging ever closer Harry Redknapp has been taking a closer look at French Under 21 starlet Nolan Roux.
Roux who plays for Stade Brest in the French Ligue 1 scored 15 goals in 34 appearances last term which, was reported to have caught the eye of Olympique Lyonnais but after the Stade Gerland’s chairman quashed the rumours saying they had a full quota of forward players, this has left the door open for Spurs to swoop.
It is believed that a fee of around £3 million would be enough for Brest to part with there prized asset, who was allowed to leave Racing Lens last summer after being considered a talent that wasn’t progressing appropriately.
This season Roux, who bears a striking resemblance to Fernando Torres has 6 goals in 11 appearances which have helped shoot Brest to top-spot in Ligue 1 and the surprise package shows no signs of letting their form slip. Although considered a first team regular for the Breton club Roux would most likely be allowed to leave if the right bid came in but, would the prospect of warming the bench at White Hart Lane be enough for the youngster.
Spurs wouldn’t have a straight chase for Rouxs signature though as La Liga sides Getafe and Hercules have also shown an interest. And with the chances of first team football more abundant with the La Liga sides would this be a deciding factor if it came down to a 3 way choice.
It is unlikely the Harry would have to balance the books for such a signing as it would hardly be breaking the bank for a club of Spurs stature. But where would Roux fit in to the first team picture, maybe a loan back out to the French league in order to keep the player in first team action. Otherwise they run the risk of having one of Frances best young talents locked away in their reserves. Only time will tell.
