Reinforcements wanted: 3 midfield solutions for Man Utd as Mourinho reveals transfer wish

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to another summer of activity. Close-season transfer windows have been an exciting time for Man Utd fans as of late, with each manager following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson given free reign to spend big at the helm.

Jose Mourinho has taken that spending to the next level, with big names like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba coming in over the last few years.

Now it seems as though he wants a few more, with the Portuguese recently stating his desire to replace Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini this season, with the former set to retire and the latter’s contractual situation still unclear.

That would certainly require quite the investment from Man Utd, given how important each of those players has been over the years, but fortunately for Mourinho, there is a ton of top talent on display in Europe that could plug the gap perfectly.

He needs to choose wisely, though, as the manager knows all too well that a poorly chosen replacement could have a big impact next season.

With that said, here are three potential midfield solutions for Jose Mourinho…

Fabinho

Perhaps the most obvious choice, Fabinho has been a star for Monaco over the years.

A solid midfielder with a decent passing range, excellent ability to tackle and a fantastic engine, the versatile Brazilian could be a brilliant asset for the Red Devils.

He won’t be cheap, but Mourinho hasn’t been afraid to spend big as of late, and he’d certainly be an upgrade for the Red Devils.

The Brazilian would fit in very well alongside Paul Pogba, whilst he could also take the defensive responsibility away from Nemanja Matic somewhat.

Wilfred Ndidi

Leicester City have a knack for landing top-class central midfielders. N’Golo Kante led them to a Premier League title a few years ago, and Ndidi has every bit as much talent as the Chelsea midfielder.

An incredible tackler, Ndidi has been at the heart of everything for Leicester this season, and at just 21-years-old, his potential is truly limitless.

With the impending departure of Carrick, the tough-tackling midfielder will be a great choice as Mourinho looks to replace the Englishman.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

This is an odd move on the surface, but could it make sense for all involved?

Jose Mourinho was a big fan of Loftus-Cheek during his tenure as Chelsea boss, and the Englishman was promoted into the first team role during his reign.

It never quite happened for either party, but now, after a year at Crystal Palace, a move could make sense.

He’s ready to play for a top team regularly, and if Chelsea aren’t going to give him a chance, perhaps Mourinho will.

Loftus-Cheek won’t be cheap, but he’s got bags of potential.
