Report: Gerrard lining up move for former Liverpool team-mate on bargain free transfer

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be preparing to see a completely different side when the Scottish Premiership season kicks off once again this August.

Steven Gerrard has been busy in the transfer window making a number of additions as he looks to strengthen his side and give them every chance of competing for domestic honours with Old Firm rivals Celtic. The former Liverpool player has made six signings so far, however, it does not appear that his business has concluded just yet.

According to a report in The Glasgow Evening Times, the new manager could look to bring one of his former Anfield team-mates to Ibrox, with Jon Flanagan’s contract having ended. The right-back is a free agent and is thought to be on Rangers’ radar as they look to continue to bolster their options.

The 25-year-old was on the wrong side of the law in January and was sent to Bolton Wanderers on loan, signalling the end of his Liverpool stint, however, it looks as though Gerrard could be prepared to give him a chance to resurrect his stuttering career in Scotland.

Landlord’s Verdict

The right-back proved his credentials as a solid defender during the early stages of his Liverpool career and many will feel he could have become a regular for Liverpool.

The resident Rangers fans in the Tavern will feel that he can offer the Light Blues something going forward and would certainly help strengthen the right side of the defence, so it would be foolish not to offer the defender a contract and secure a bargain free transfer in the coming weeks.
